Peripatetic Tuition
A Peripatetic Teacher is, by definition a travelling teacher. Over the years this has come to be associated with working with Schools and other organisations, rather than on an individual basis. This section of the site is therefore aimed at providing information for prospective organisations wishing to open a contract with me.
My Peripatetic work varies according to the needs of each organisation and as such the information presented here is meant as a guide. Using the experience I have gained over the years I would like to explain my opinion on Group tuition as this is often the most requested form of tuition. I believe that whilst appearing to offer value for money, group tuition is not an effective and productive form of instrumental tuition. Because of the nature of learning how to play an instrument, one on one sessions result in the most efficient and productive lessons. As all people learn at different rates and have different abilities, group tuition can very quickly result in an uneven lesson with the teacher having to go at the pace of the slowest learner. It is for these reasons that I strongly recommend against group tuition although, due to my experience I am able to provide tuition to groups of no more than 4 pupils at a time. My approach to the quality and content of lessons means I am unwilling to teach large groups.
In recent years the procedures for working with children and vulnerable adults means that a CRB check may be requested by individual organisations. I have done many disclosures over the years and realise that a new ones are needed regularly so I am willing to fill in CRB disclosures at the request of the organisation.
Due to the nature of Peripatetic Teaching, the cost of my services change according the the needs and demand of the organisation. I work as a Peripatetic Guitar Teacher for Birch Music School, an established teaching organisation based in Blackburn, if you have any enquiries relating to work in Blackburn and East Lancashire, please contact the proprietor at Birch Music School. For all enquiries relating to Preston and West Lancashire, you can contact me via the Contact Me page.
